Why do teams move their email step from Hunter to OrbiSearch?

Nearly half as many again, found

Same 288 contacts, same live re-verification: OrbiSearch 79.2%, Hunter 53.5%. Hunter returned 57.3% before verification, so about one in 15 of the emails it handed back did not verify. OrbiSearch results are verified before they are returned.

Credits you keep

Hunter's monthly credits reset every cycle, annual and Data Platform credits last 12 months, and top-up packs 3 months. OrbiSearch sells one-time packs that never expire, plus unlimited finder plans from $249 a month, and is cheaper per found email on every pack.

Verification at a fraction of the price

Verifying 100,000 emails costs $103 on OrbiSearch and at least $690 on Hunter; 1 million costs $311 against $2,800. OrbiSearch resolves catch-all and greylisted addresses at the mailbox level, where Hunter returns accept-all or unknown.

Find rate

Which finds more emails, Hunter.io or OrbiSearch?

Both tools were run on the same 288 real B2B contacts in August 2026, alongside Apollo, Icypeas, LeadMagic, Prospeo and People Data Labs. Every returned address was re-verified live at benchmark time, so these are deliverable emails, not source-sheet hits.

Hunter alone

~5,350 emails

for $149 a month

10,000 contacts × 53.5% = 5,350 credits, inside Growth's 10,000. About $0.028 per found email; the 4,650 unused credits reset at the end of the month. Annual billing brings Growth to $104 a month.

OrbiSearch

~7,920 emails

for $62

The $62 Professional pack covers 10,000 searches, so 48% more emails for 58% less. On the $207 pack, which covers ten months like this and never expires, it is about $21 a month. Adding Hunter on the 2,080 left would find about 100 more.

Hunter: 1 credit per email returned, at the plan's per-credit rate with every credit used, which flatters Hunter; monthly plans run $0.0245 (Starter) to $0.01196 (Scale) per credit, 30% less on annual billing, and larger volumes use Data Platform search credits. Accept-all and unknown results also cost a credit. OrbiSearch: 1 credit per search, found or not, converted at 79.2% found, so the searches that find nothing are already priced in. OrbiSearch is 23% cheaper per found email on the smallest pack and 46% to 80% cheaper from 10,000 searches up. The Unlimited Starter row assumes the full 10,000 searches a day for 30 days; larger unlimited plans cover 30,000 a day for $499 and 75,000 a day for $999. Prices checked October 28, 2026.

Is OrbiSearch cheaper than Hunter.io for email verification?

Hunter charges 0.5 credits per verification on its outreach plans and 1 verification credit on the Data Platform, for valid, invalid and accept-all results. Each row uses the cheapest single Hunter purchase that covers the volume. OrbiSearch: one-time packs, 1 credit = 5 validations.

At 100,000 emails, Hunter's 150,000-credit Data Platform tier ($690) costs less than buying exactly 100,000 ($740). Annual Scale ($2,508 for 600,000 verifications) brings Hunter to about $0.0042 per email if you use it all within the year. Above 1 million, Hunter prices through sales. Hunter returns catch-all addresses as accept-all and greylisted or blocked checks as unknown. OrbiSearch checks catch-all, secure-email-gateway and greylisted addresses at the mailbox level and resolves them to valid or invalid wherever the mailbox can be checked. See the catch-all domains research. Prices checked October 28, 2026.

Verifying millions of emails?

Hunter quotes custom pricing above 1 million credits. OrbiSearch sells 5 million validations for $1,151 and 10 million for $2,023, with private dedicated infrastructure and white glove support on those packs: no queues, no file splitting, and we handle data cleaning and quality monitoring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do teams switch from Hunter to OrbiSearch?

For finding and verifying emails at volume, two reasons that compound. Find rate: on the same 288 B2B contacts, every result re-verified live, OrbiSearch found 79.2% and Hunter 53.5%, so OrbiSearch returns about 48% more deliverable emails from the same list. Cost: Hunter works out at $7.30 to $24.50 per 1,000 found emails depending on volume, while OrbiSearch, even though it charges for every search, found or not, works out at $1.45 to $18.94 per 1,000 found on one-time packs that never expire, or about $1.05 on an unlimited plan. Verification is 73% to 89% cheaper. Teams that use Hunter's Domain Search, lead database or cold email sequences often keep it for those.

How much does Hunter cost?

Hunter's outreach plans are Starter at $49 a month for 2,000 credits, Growth at $149 for 10,000 and Scale at $299 for 25,000, with 30% off on annual billing ($408, $1,248 and $2,508 a year, credits given upfront). The Free plan has 50 credits a month. A found email costs 1 credit and a verification 0.5 credits. Monthly credits reset each cycle and do not roll over; extra credit packs expire after 3 months. For API-only use, the Data Platform sells search credits from $0.05 down to $0.0069 each and verification credits from $0.011 down to $0.0028, valid 12 months, with pricing above 1 million credits through sales. Prices checked on hunter.io on October 28, 2026.

What is Hunter?

Hunter (hunter.io), launched in 2015, is a prospecting platform best known for its Domain Search, which lists the email addresses Hunter has found for a company, and its Email Finder and Email Verifier. Its paid plans also include Discover, a B2B lead database, and Sequences, a cold email tool, plus a browser extension, a Google Sheets add-on, CRM integrations, an API and an MCP server. Hunter says more than 7 million people use it.

Is OrbiSearch a Hunter alternative?

For finding and verifying work emails, yes: both take a name and a company domain and return a verified email, and both sell standalone verification and company enrichment. OrbiSearch finds more (79.2% against 53.5% on the same contacts), costs less per found email and per verification, and sells credits that never expire. It is not a replacement for Hunter's Domain Search, lead database or cold email sequences, which OrbiSearch does not offer.

How does OrbiSearch compare to Hunter on find rate?

In our August 2026 benchmark of 7 email finders on 288 real B2B contacts across North America, EMEA and APAC, Hunter returned an email for 57.3% of contacts, of which 53.5% verified live; OrbiSearch returned 79.2%, all live-verified. By region, Hunter scored 53.7% in North America, 65.7% in EMEA and 40.4% in APAC, against OrbiSearch's 78.9%, 85.9% and 72.3%. The full per-contact data is downloadable from orbisearch.com/research/email-finder-benchmark.

Should I run Hunter after OrbiSearch in a waterfall?

Usually not. On the benchmark, OrbiSearch alone found 79.2% of contacts and OrbiSearch plus Hunter together found 80.2%, so Hunter adds about 1 point on top of OrbiSearch: on 10,000 contacts that is roughly 100 extra emails. If you already pay for Hunter for Domain Search or Sequences, leaving it as a last email step costs nothing extra. Our waterfall calculator at orbisearch.com/tools/waterfall-calculator models any combination.

Does Hunter charge for emails it cannot find?

No. Hunter charges 1 credit only when the Email Finder returns an email, and that email can be valid, accept-all or unknown. OrbiSearch charges 1 credit per finder search regardless of outcome, which is why the comparison above converts it to cost per found email at its 79.2% benchmark rate. Even after that conversion OrbiSearch is cheaper on every pack: by 23% on the 2,000-search pack, and by 46% to 80% from 10,000 searches up.

How does Hunter handle catch-all emails?

Hunter marks addresses on catch-all domains as accept-all, and charges for them like valid and invalid results. Hunter says a proprietary method lets it verify accept-all addresses at several major email providers, which it does not name, and that in general a catch-all address cannot be confirmed with full certainty by any tool. When a server greylists or blocks the check, Hunter returns unknown, which is free. OrbiSearch checks catch-all, secure-email-gateway and greylisted addresses at the mailbox level and resolves them to valid or invalid wherever the mailbox can be checked, without sending an email. Neither tool sends email to the addresses it checks.

Do Hunter credits expire?

Yes. Credits on Hunter's monthly plans reset at the end of each billing cycle and do not roll over. Annual plan and Data Platform credits are valid for 12 months, and extra credit packs for 3 months. If you cancel or move to the Free plan, unused subscription credits are lost. OrbiSearch credits never expire.

Does OrbiSearch have a Domain Search like Hunter?

No. OrbiSearch finds the email of a specific person, from their name and company domain or their LinkedIn profile URL, and verifies email lists. It does not list every email address it knows at a company, and it has no lead database or email sequences. If you prospect by browsing a company's public addresses, Hunter does that and OrbiSearch does not.
